Tied agents
These are advisers who only sell one company’s products. They are similar to direct sales staff except they are self-employed. Often these advisers cannot give you advice on the full range of financial issues – but they will try and sell you products from the company to which they are tied if they think they are suitable for you. Many of these agents work on a commission basis – so the more they sell, the higher their commission.

TIP: Tied agents cannot ensure you always have the best products on the market as they can only sell their own company’s products. For that, you will have to seek out an independent financial adviser.
