The Jesus Video Project for San Diego is aiming to reach the entire county with the movie based on the Book of Luke by the end of the year 2000, and the leadership has several ways to focus its effort.
Networking with pastors is the way to get entire churches involved. Targeting Christian businesses, volunteers have mailed the video to entire areas. And in order to increase personal presentations, a new program – Merry Christmas! San Diego – is being launched this month.
“It was done last Christmas in Kansas City and 37,500 videos were presented from the campaign,” said Bruce Fox, local director. “If they can do that well in Kansas City, we can do it here!”
The videos are available for anyone to buy at a special price – only $6 – and the goal is to have them passed out to unsaved friends and neighbors. (See ad on page 14)
In the four years since the Jesus Video Project was started for San Diego, more than 40,000 videos have been distributed in 45 languages, according to Fox. The foreign language distribution has totaled more than 5,000.
About 180 churches and parachurch organizations have participated, the director said, and more are coming aboard as the countywide effort becomes divided into smaller regions.
A highlight of the “Merry Christmas, San Diego!” campaign is that beginning Dec. 14, a Christmas tree light will be lit for each video bought. The large Christmas tree is located at Santa Fe Christian School in Solana Beach and the tree can be seen from I-5.
