Five PLNC pre-law students — Kristiana Bobczynski, Jana Chapman, Aaron Eriksson, Tracy Lavin and Kathryn Tomlinson — have been selected for a prestigious internship with the Curator’s Office of the United States Supreme Court.
They will spend the spring 1997 semester working at the Supreme Court building in Washington, D.C. Their assignments will include completing historical and curatorial research projects related to the history of the Court and its justices, providing public information services, guiding visitors on tours of the building, and when time allows, social functions of the court, where they will have opportunities to meet with key figures in contemporary American judicial circles. They will work five days a week, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. as well as complete academic assignments under the supervision of Dr. Barry Ryan (associate professor of history and director of the PLNC pre-law program).
Dr. Ryan hopes this will be the beginning of a long-term relationship with the Supreme Court, one which will see PLNC students serving as interns in years to come. Other universities which have participated in this program include Harvard, Cornell, George Washington, George Mason, North Carolina (Chapel Hill), Boston College, Boston University and the University of Utah. PLNC is the only Christian liberal arts college in the U.S. invited to submit applicants and the only institution to have all five of its finalists accepted into the program.
