SEED SOWN: I probably attended Sunday school no more than a dozen times as a child. Then when I was nine we moved to National City, where I received my first copy of the Word of God. Gideon’s International came to Highland Avenue Elementary School and gave out New Testaments. That was the first really big influence upon my heart for Christ.
WATERED: In 1944 we moved to Oregon where I surrendered my heart to Jesus at the age of 16. We lived on a farm and every few months a local preacher came calling. George Alder was such a friendly, godly man, and his interest in the Jenkins family created a lot of curiosity.
CULTIVATED: Finally, one of my older brothers said, “Why don’t we take George up on his invitation and go hear what he has to say?” It wasn’t long before we were hooked on God. His sermons were so biblical and powerful that the Holy Spirit brought conviction to our hearts and the whole family became followers of Christ, turning from our sinful ways, putting our faith in his shed blood, following him through the waters of baptism and letting His Spirit fill us, and use us, bearing the fruits of righteousness. Praise God for the harvest!
