The New Britain Herald covers local news, events and life in the city of New Britain and across Hartford County in central Connecticut. The Herald and the Bristol Press are published together as a single newspaper. They also publish a single Sunday edition called the Sunday Herald Press.
In early 2009, Central Connecticut Communications LLC (CCC) purchased The Herald and several other newspapers from the failing Journal Register Company. The president of CCC is Michael E. Schroeder, a former Newsday executive who was also involved in the 2015 purchase by casino billionaire Sheldon Adelson of the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
On April 4, 2022, Rhode Island Suburban Newspapers bought The New Britain Herald/Bristol Press and The Willimantic Chronicle from Central Connecticut Communications. Rhode Island Suburban Newspapers was launched in early 2007; that year it purchased the nine Rhode Island newspapers of Journal Register Company for $8.3 million.

New Britain Herald Sold to Central Connecticut Communications
— Central Connecticut Communications agreed to purchase the New Britain Herald, the Bristol Press and the Sunday Herald Press from the Journal Register Company on January 7, 2009.
