An Anglican priest who permitted his church to be used for a memorial service for a pet monkey defended his decision, saying “We filled a pastoral need.”
The 25-year-old monkey named Bill was given a life of luxury by his owners, parishioners Sam and Shirley Bruce in England. The monkey had his own color TV, slept in a bed, and ate Sunday dinner with his owners.
During the memorial service the congregation sang hymns and listened to music from “The Lion King.”
