San Diego Lighthouse Church and West Hills Christian Fellowship merged together on April 27.
When Dr. Jerry Barnard, church founder, left the church in February 1994 to begin an international outreach ministry of evangelism, his son-in-law and associate pastor of 10 years, Gary Cass, took on the leadership position as senior pastor of West Hills Christian Fellowship.
In March 1997, San Diego Lighthouse Church was once again in transition. The Lord had a calling for Dr. Jerry Barnard’s son, Steve, and he was finally given the opportunity to fulfill his calling in life by accepting the position as senior pastor for San Diego Lighthouse Church. During this time, Pastor Gary Cass and his congregation were also in a transition, in the process of looking for a new facility.
Through much negotiations, prayers, and blessings from the leadership of both churches, Pastor Steve Barnard asked Pastor Gary Cass to join with him at San Diego Lighthouse Church.
The pastors both have the same vision – unity and family, and say that it made perfect sense to bring both bodies of Christ and families together in unity.
The Lord has blessed both churches, they say, and have made them one. Pastor Steve and Pastor Gary are asking all those who wish to merge with them, who desire unity and family, to come join them.
By a unanimous vote at a special business meeting, the congregation of Mapleview Baptist Church in Lakeside has elected their executive pastor, Ronald M. Thomas, to serve as senior pastor. He replaces John H. Redman, who was called to an executive position with the Conservative Baptist Assn. of Southern California.
