On Oct. 25, nearly 3,000 Christians gathered at the new Cox Arena at San Diego State University for the “Heal Our Land” prayer musical. A mass choir numbering over 400 singers from 75 San Diego County churches and 16 local pastors and leaders led those in attendance in prayer and praise for the United States of America.
San Diego Mayor Susan Golding issued a proclamation naming Oct. 25 “Heal Our Land Day” in San Diego, acknowledging that the gathering encouraged not only prayer but also acts of service to those less fortunate. Special guest for the evening was Dr. Paul Cedar, the chairman of Mission America, a coalition of over 300 leaders of the largest Christian denominations and ministries in the country.
Many prayer times were held throughout the evening, one being for elected officials in San Diego and was attended by San Diego City Attorney Casey Gwinn, El Cajon City Councilman Bob McClellan and a representative of Sheriff Kolendar. Another prayer time was held for repentance for racial bigotry, with the audience holding hands and renouncing racism.
Plans are underway for video footage from San Diego’s event to be used in a promotional video designed to demonstrate the event’s uniqueness for other cities.
“The feedback we’ve received on the evening has been so great,” said event Chairman Jane Crane, “…many people reported being uplifted and recharged to do the Father’s work, to be His hands and hearts [and] to participate with Him in the healing of our land.”
