Cyclone Mokha is moving towards the coast with a speed of seven to eight kilometers per hour. The storm has been moving at that speed all day today. However, this speed can increase at any time. Whether the storm will gain strength or weaken will also be known around this time.
Abul Kalam Mallick, meteorologist of the Directorate of Meteorology told Prothom Alo that the cyclone may hit the coast of Bangladesh and Myanmar by next Sunday. However, under the influence of its front, light to moderate rains may start in different parts of the country. Rain is likely to increase by Saturday night, continuing into Sunday and Monday. As a result, the effect of the heat wave that has started in different parts of the country may be reduced.
The latest notification number 6 has been issued by the Meteorological Department regarding the cyclone Mokha. It is said that the sea is rough due to the effect of the cyclone. The country’s four seaports Chittagong, Mongla, Payra and Matarbari have been asked to display remote warning signal number 2. Fishing boats and ships in the Bay of Bengal have been asked to proceed with caution.
According to the release, the maximum wind speed was 62 km/h within 54 km of the center of the cyclone, increasing to a maximum of 88 km/h. As it approaches the coast, its speed may increase. It may also increase the warning signal of the Meteorological Department.
Meanwhile, the information of the Directorate of Meteorology says that the temperature in most places of the country, including Dhaka, has decreased slightly compared to yesterday and Wednesday. However, the temperature in various districts of northern region has increased by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature in Dhaka today was 38.4 degrees Celsius. And in Chuadanga, the highest temperature in the country was 38.5 degrees Celsius.
The Meteorological Department says that it has rained in different parts of the country today. Faridpur received the highest rainfall of 25 mm. Rain with thunder is likely in Sylhet and Mymensingh divisions during the rest of the day today. In other parts of the country, the amount of cloud blowing from the Bay of Bengal may increase. Especially in the coastal districts, the temperature may drop due to increase in clouds.
