On October 19, Las Flores Church of the Nazarene in Carlsbad will be celebrating its 50th anniversary. This event is being held mainly to reach out to the community and to draw non-believers or those without a church home.
The community is being invited to join in the festivities, beginning with a special worship service at 10 a.m. under the big tent and special music by the Point Loma College Concert Choir. Past pastors and long-time members of the church will be honored. Following the service a complimentary catered buffet will be served. There will also be balloons for the kids, more special music, and a drawing for gifts.
Las Flores Church of the Nazarene began in 1947 as Oceanside Church of the Nazarene with 13 people meeting in the Women’s Club under the leadership of Rev. W.A.O. Wilson. It moved to its present location at 1400 Las Flores Drive in 1975. Pastor Dwayne Edwards leads the church and Phil Barron heads up the youth ministry.
