Brazil’s first Protestant cable television station is on the air. The station VINDE TV in San Paulo has the slogan, “You won’t be the one to change the channel. The channel will change you.”
“This station is a response to prayers that we began in 1975,” explained the Rev. Caio Fabio D’Araujo Filho, president of the channel. He said he believes the future of Brazilian television lies with cable because of its ability to reach niche audiences. Brazil’s cable television market is reportedly the fastest growing in the world.
Brazil’s Christians initially considered television to be an instrument of the devil, and therefore would have nothing to do with it. Today, however, many believe that the church must seize such tools from the devil’s hands and use them for the Lord’s work.
The new station is not affiliated with any particular denomination, and will be open to all evangelicals.
