Barrow Raiders Dealt Major Injury Blow To A Key Forward

Barrow Raiders have announced forward Carl Forster has undergone shoulder surgery, which will rule him out for the duration of the 2022 season.

Forster 30, 30, first was injured in February, during the team’s Challenge Cup fourth round victory against Rochdale in the Crown Oil Arena. He went to play 21 times for the Raiders across all competitions this season.

But, the choice was taken for Forster to have the surgery earlier in the week, meaning Forster will not be able to participate in the rest of the campaign while his recovery starts.

The St Helens-born player recently signed a two-year contract for the team that runs through the 2024 season.

Responding to the announcement, Forster said: “I am grateful for all the lovely messages I’ve received over the past 24 hours..

“I’m extremely disappointed to be not able to participate in the remaining games of the season and what appears to be the play-offs. However, I’m hoping to taking part in the team, both on and off the field, in the next few months.”

Barrow hooker enjoins RFL to be attentive to the the next Summer Bash venue

Barrow Raiders hooker Nathan Mossop believes that the Rugby Football League must listen to the fans at their future Summer Bash location.

The 34-year old was on the bench during their victory of 36-24 against Widnes in this season’s Championship tournament held at Headingley Stadium.

This was also the very first time that the Summer Bash had been moved from Blackpool’s Bloomfield Road.

But, the change came with a new low , with a total attendance of 10,763. It’s the lowest number of attendees recorded of the day.

Saturday’s attendance was 6,752, which also included Leigh’s battle with Featherstone. Sunday’s crowd was of 4,011 – the second-lowest number of people in any year that the event has been held.

He stated: “It’s a good day at the Summer Bash, it always is. I’m sure there’s many who are in the rugby league begging to be able to return to Blackpool. For us it’s a very special day.

“Speaking about myself, I feel that for players, it’s not that big in the way of impacting us, because being at Bloomfield Road and Headingley, they’re both fantastic stadiums. It’s almost as if you’re playing in a final cup when you play at Headingley and Bloomfield Road.”
