Apple has now officially announced the new iOS 6.0.1 firmware, and iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch user can download and install this new firmware on their devices right away.

How to Install iOS 6.0.1 Firmware:
In case you want to do a fresh install of iOS 6.0.1, and if your device is on iOS 5 or iOS 6 firmware, then download the IPSW files from the above links, plug your iOS device to your computer, launch iTunes and do the following:
- On Windows:Hold the Shift button on your keyboard and click Restore button on iTunes. A window will pop up — select the iOS 6.0.1 IPSW file and installation will begin immediately.

Note: Some of the iOS 6.0.1 files are over 900 MB. If you don’t want to download these huge files and install through iTunes, then I’d recommend you to update using the “Software Update” option. Here’s what you need to do:
From your iOS device, go to Settings -> General -> Software Update.
Here, you are downloading only the update of iOS (incremental update), not the whole firmware. Assuming you have iOS 6.0 running on your device, the new iOS 6.0.1 update will be less than 50 MB. If you have iOS 5 firmware installed, then of course the whole file (630 MB on iPhone 4S) will be downloaded over the air.
